Projects
Interactive LED Picture Frame
The iLED project is esentially a really fancy home made lite-brite. The idea was to make a big ass circuit that would carry enough voltage to power +/- 100 LEDs. The LEDs will be attached to the circuit via rare earth magnets. When the whole thing is done it will be a beautiful digital canvas where anybody can manipulate the colors and create whatever images they like.
This project is about 60% done. Read the worklog here.
Layered Transparent Light Installation/optical scanning camera
The Idea here was to stack multiple translucent prints on top of one another to create a composite image with more depth than a standard print. I would then install a light-source behind the stacked prints to illuminate them from behind. The light source could either be a static bulb, or more interestingly, I could use the bulb from a scanner to both provide the light for the piece and record the candid reactions from the person viewing the installation. I’ve already finished the art for the piece, now I need to print and assemble it.
Project is about 50% done. Read the worklog here.
20″ x 20″ PI Illustration
More info soon.
24” x 36” Da Vinci Journal Illustration
The Da Vinci Journal Illustration is going to be a wall hanging comprised of the complete notebooks of Leonardo Da Vinci. I took the text for the notebook from the Project Gutenberg site.
This project is about 75% done. Worklog coming soon.
Plexi-Glass Light Installation and drape formed furniture
The Plexi-glass Light Installation is still just conceptual. If anybody knows where to get translucent orange # 2119 acrylic please let me know.
This project is 0% done.
Computer controlled parabolic grid antenna
The computer controlled parabolic grid antenna is essentially a computer controlled Pelco pan and tilt with a grid antenna attached. The antenna will automatically scan the horizon and sniff out the best wifi hotsopts and join them. The pan and tilt will be controlled via optical encoders and attach through a parallel port for software interfacing.
This project is about 50% done. Worklog coming soon.
Dome Liberation Project
The Dome Liberation project is essentially a computer animation project formatted for a semi-spherical dome rather than flat 2d space. Even though we have unrestricted access to a 300 node rendering cluster and a planetarium we’ve been very very very slow to get anything done. Simon is in the process of negotiating a space to permanently house our dome and our projectors. I might post some of the storyboards and animations we’ve come up with over the last year. Maybe it’ll kickstart things again.
This project is about 1% done. *frowney faces*
