Skittles the photographer

This year Skittles got his very own camera for Christmas. It attaches to his collar and sees everything he does.

Skittles has been wearing his camera and taking pictures for a couple weeks now so I figured I would start showing off all of his hard work. Skittles has his own photoset on my flickr page that I will continue to update as he takes more and more great pictures. Check it out here.

St. Francis Cube

Not exactly sure what they’re doing, but in the meantime the giant plastic cube in the middle of historic downtown Santa Fe makes for a fun juxtaposition.

Happy Birthday Me!

Yay! A quarter of a century old. Go me!

Also, Melissa is a culinary genius. Best cake ever.

Haunted Hotel #2

Melissa and I now have another haunted hotel under our belt! This time our destination was the beautiful Plaza hotel in Las Vegas, NM.

And while nothing spooky happened we still had a great time. The Plaza hotel is a beautiful Victorian hotel with quite a bit of history. The highlight of the stay for me was eating in Booker T’s Saloon where Doc Holliday had shot a man for cheating him at cards.

Is that a ghost in the window? Afraid not. The Plaza Hotel had various ghostly figures projected onto the windows of the adjacent building. These figures were telling stories of the old west through speakers setup on the plaza. It was pretty neat, but we were way too cold to hang around outside listening for long.

Train Trips and Changing Aspens

For Melissa’s birthday this year I decided to take her on a train trip from New Mexico into Colorado to see the aspens changing color. We were a little bit late in the season for the aspens, but it was still great fun.

More pics up on my flickr page.

Powers of 10 ftw

Picture 2.pngInteractive photo-mosaics are awesome. What is particularly interesting to me about this one is how it’s also a means of sorting photos by color. Kinda flickr’esq in a sense. If you start on a flesh tone and keep zooming you get a lot of pictures of people and portraits. Similarly if you pick a yellow spot you’ll be stuck with lots of fruit and flowers. A very interesting way to kill a couple minutes. :-D

Another awesome little flash animation based on the powers of 10 principal is the Zoomquilt. This one is more impressive to me simply because it is more subtle.

We’re Alive!

DSC00329.JPGWe survived our trip to Cimarron and without a single possession… go us! I’m sorry to say that our night in the Mary Lambert room of the St. James hotel wasn’t as scary as I would have hoped. The only unexplainable thing I noticed was a very pronounced smell of perfume as we entered the room. This is a very common occurrence according to the hotel staff. They claim that the perfume is that of Mary Lambert and means that she is present in the room. We had also heard that if you leave the window open in the room Mary would make a tapping noise until the window is shut. We left the window open most of the night without hearing anything. Eventually we had to close it because it was getting cold, oh well. We took lots of pictures but couldn’t find anything paranormal. Maybe next time :-(

We also took lots of groovy camping pictures.
